THE YUGA SCIENCE

The yuga science appears to be first codified in India by the great sages of the hindu faith.  It has been explained by many different sages and hindu scientists for thousands and thousands of years.  Some of these folks hypothesized that the yugas entailed hundreds of thousands of years within the grand cycle, but this has been attributed to a misunderstanding of what was meant in the writings known as the Vedas.

I won’t go into depth on this history of the differing theories of what are the appropriate lengths of the yugas.  I believe the theory put forth by Swami Sri Yukteswar is the most rational theory advanced to date.  He gives a very succinct narrative of his theory in the beginning of his incredible treatise “Darsanam Sanatana” or “The Holy Science”, written around 1893.  I highly recommend reading this book.

Sri Yukteswar puts forth his theory that the Yuga system involves an approximate 24,000 year cycle that repeats endlessly.  One half of the cycle, 12,000 years, is a descending arc and one half, 12,000 years, is an ascending arc.  They feed each other.  One cannot happen without the other.  Think of the Chinese symbol Yin-Yang.  Each side of the symbol cannot exist without the other and they are feeding off of each other endlessly.  Positive-Negative, black-white.  The Law of Duality, for each there is an opposite.  Hence, you have a descending arc and you have an ascending arc in the yuga cycle.  Think of the descending arc as the negative side, the side of darkness.  The ascending arc is the positive side, the side of light.

During the ascending arc, human consciousness is in an upward mobility or increasing in capacity, or what was described by Sri Yukteswar as mental dharma.  So it would be supposed that during the descending arc, mankind’s mental dharma is the opposite, decreasing or in a downward mobility.  Man’s capacity to understand himself and his place in this solar system during the descending arc is restrictive.  As he once again starts the ascending cycle, his capacity to understand himself and his place increases.  It is a repeating and continuing cycle, never ending so long as the solar system is in existence.  Think about how the motions of this earth effects how you feel physically and you can begin to understand how the motions of the yugas effects mankind in a mental way or in a consciousness way.

Each arc of the yuga cycle is further broken down into four smaller cycles: the Kali Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, Treta Yuga and Satya Yuga.  The 24,000 year cycle is called the Maha Yuga (or the great year as was called by Plato).  Each of the yugas lasts for the following approximate number of years:  Kali Yuga, 1200 years;  Dwapara Yuga, 2400 years;  Treta Yuga, 3600 years;  and the Satya Yuga, 4800 years.  This is the same whether the great year is descending or ascending.  So the cycle of the Maha Yuga ascends from Kali Yuga to Dwapara Yuga to Treta Yuga to Satya Yuga then begins to descend through Satya Yuga to Treta Yuga to Dwapara Yuga to Kali Yuga.  So you have a double time of the Kali and Satya Yugas during the transition periods from ascending to descending and descending to ascending.  Each of these periods have transition times associated with them when mankinds mental dharma is transitioning from one phase into the next.  It’s easier to visualize in a diagram:

The Yuga Science is the machinery of the universe.  It is the mechanism that operates the universe and it all relates to reincarnation and karma.  More on this to come.

Solar Eruptions

I know in my last post I said the next one would be about the yuga system.  But I found this video and wanted to share with you.  It’s truly amazing footage.  Watching the video, one would think that these eruptions defy gravity.  They are truly amazing, beautiful moments of nature.   Be sure to expand into full screen to fully enjoy the footage.

It’s no wonder our ancient ancestors worshipped the sun as the giver and taker of life.  Just imagine if one of these flares reaches across time and space to “touch” earth.  Imagine the devastation that would occur.  Well, there is evidence this has happened in the past and that it will happen again in the future.

The sun is most definitely connected with our human bodies and it has been hypothesized by Maurice Cotterell that it is indeed the controller of human fertilization and development of the fetus.  Mr. Cotterell has written several books that presents his theory and shows that the ancients knew this knowledge, including the Egyptians, the Mayans, the Chinese.

English: Path of the point of vernal equinox along the ecliptic over a 6000 year period. The tradition of take the point of vernal equinox as defining the “sign of Aries” dates to Babylonian astrology, ca. 600 BC. It is apparent in this image that the main star of Aries, Hamal, was closest to the point of vernal equinox in ca. the 7th century BC. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Precession of the equinoxes as seen from ‘outside’ the celestial dome. The shift of the Earth’s polar axis over 5000 year among the stars (orange: 3000 BC at Thuban, yellow: 2000 AD at Polaris) goes together with a shift of the equatorial planes and therefore the equinoxes along the ecliptic. Future posts will delve deeper into these two systems of the yuga science and the phenomenon of the precession of the equinoxes.  This post is intended to be just a summary to introduce you to the phenomenon of the precession of the equinoxes.

First, let’s summarize what is precession of the equinoxes (PE).  PE is an astronomical event involving our planet, the sun, the zodiacal band, and time.  Scientific historians will argue that it was discovered by Hipparchus, but I believe it was well known many of thousands of years before his time, if not millions of years.  In a book titled “Devolution” the author makes very good argument that human civilization, as we know it, is actually tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of years old.  He produces evidence of discoveries of human artifacts that have been unearthed around the globe, such as coins, that were embedded in earth tens to hundreds of millions of years old.  How do coins, which would be evidence of a civilization, show up in bedrock that is tens of millions of years old?  I believe the science of yugas clearly explains the reason for this.  But we will discuss the yugas in the next posting.

The earth has five motions as it travels through space.  The first is its daily rotation on its axis, which equals 24 hours, or one day.  The second is it’s yearly motion of revolving around our sun on the ecliptic plane, which takes 365 earth days, or a year.  The third motion is the “wobble” of the earth on its axis.  The fourth motion is what Plato termed the “great year”.  This great year is the time it takes for our sun with all it’s satellites (planets), and all of the planets satellites (moons), to complete it’s year of revolution around it’s central point, which is approximately 25,920 earth years, a very similar number to the total number of years of a great yuga cycle, which is 24,000 years.  The fifth motion is the movement of our complete solar system traveling within the galaxy as the galaxy travels through space.  All of these motions have an effect on humans, of which we will cover in future posts.

As all these motions are occurring, it has the apparent effect of the sun positioning itself “in front” of the constellations.  So we say that the sun is “occupying” such and such constellation.  Currently, our sun is occupying the constellation of Pisces or in the age of Pisces.  The sun occupies each constellation or age for approximately 2160 years.  This occupation is recorded on the annual spring equinox, where the sun appears to be in the sky each year on this date.  So, for 2160 years, each spring equinox will tell us what age we are in.  It is called precession of the equinoxes because the equinox appears to move westward along the ecliptic plane relative to the fixed stars, opposite to the motion of the sun.

The 25,920 years is approximate.  Many scientists argue on the number of years but it’s safe to say it’s pretty accurate number.  Walter Cruttenden makes a good case in his book “The Lost Star of Myth and Time” that the actual number of years fluctuates because of the gravitational tug of our (hypothetical) dual sun on the solar system.  Walter argues that the PE is a result of our solar system traveling through space with the apparent backdrop of stars behind our sun as a result of this motion, as opposed to traditional scientific theory of the sun-moon “tugging” effect on the earth, or Solar-Lunar Theory of the PE.  I say theory because it has not been proven what the cause is.  There is no scientific law established explaining the PE.  There are the laws of planetary motions and the like that were discovered by Isaac Newton, but these have some fallacies in how they explain the PE, of which we will discuss in future posts.  With all due respect to Mr. Newton and his colleagues, these laws are only a few hundred years old and the knowledge of the PE by our ancient ancestors are tens of thousands of years old.  I am inclined to believe in something that has been around much longer.

I would agree with the sun-moon effect on the earth as it relates to the position of the north star, which is currently Polaris.  However, I agree with Walter as to the cause of the apparent backdrop of constellations and our sun.  If he is correct in that the number of years of this great revolution fluctuates around the span of 25,000 years or so, then this would line up very well with the yuga science and it’s associated number of years.  The Binary Research Institute is a good reference for those of you wishing to pursue deeper into the alternate theory of our possible binary star system and the solar systems motion through space.

In the next post we will summarize what is the Yuga Science.

Aside

I start this blog on, of all days, the 21 December 2012.  Why not?  Obviously the world is not ending.

The Mayans had such a strong belief in this date for some reason.  Perhaps we will never know the reason.  Or do we already?  The Mayans were keen and resolute observers of time.  They were perhaps one of the most skilled at it of all of our ancestors.  They keyed in on this date more than 5,000 years ago.  They knew of the cyclical nature of time and I choose this date to start this blog because of this.  And because today is the winter solstice.

I have been interested in astronomy ever since I can remember.  Someone once asked me: “why stare into space looking at the stars?”  Too which I replied: “because they hold the answer to everything.”  When it comes to time and our existence in this solar system, this answer to which I gave can be most closest to the truth than anything else I can reason. The ancients knew this.  Why we “modern” humans cannot is beyond fathoming.  We are stuck in this predicament of time as a straight arrow and not circular.  And it has affected EVERYTHING about us humans and our history.  In fact, it has controlled history.  But if we reflect back on the ancients who knew about time it will be shown they had a very deep knowledge of how time works and they reflected this in their artwork, their architecture, their myths, their places of worship, and even in the thing they worship.  Some cultures (the Egyptians, Mayans, Indians, and others) simply extrapolated from the heavens how time works by observing our sky over thousands, perhaps millions, of years.  More precisely, they studied the precession of the equinox, which is the only true clock of our planet.  And they incorporated the knowledge gained from these studies into their myths, art, religion, architecture.  The Indians (Asian, not Native American) perfected the study of time and codified it in the Yuga science.

By following this blog, you will see how the Yuga science corresponds very remarkably to the precession of the equinox and how it all affects us humans here on planet Earth, the third planet out from the Sun in the Solar System, which is on the Orion-Cygnus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is only one of many galaxies in the Local Group of the Virgo Supercluster of galaxies.  In other words, we are simply a speck of dust in the universe, but at the same time we are the universe.  I believe it was Lao Tzu who said “there is no God when there is nothing but God”.
